The Louis A. Wiltz Gymnasium was built by the Orleans Parish School Board in 1916, and at the time it included the largest public open-air swimming pool in the City. The historic gym is approximately 5,000 SF and is set on a 21,554 SF lot in the Bywater.
When we purchased the blighted property, it was zoned as HMR-3, and we worked with the neighborhood, city planning professionals, and city council to attain HMC-1 (commercial) zoning on the property. We restored the Gym to its original glory using historic tax credits. The project breathed new life into the area, and now houses NOLA Bark Market and New Orleans Art Supply. The large backyard serves as a private dog park for the popular pet supply store.
